San Miguel residents can discuss water needs at Thursday meeting

The San Luis Obispo County Integrated Regional Water Management Plan update will be discussed Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at a community meeting at the fire station, 1150 Mission St., to hear from San Miguel citizens concerning water needs now and in the future. The management plan is an effort to promote sustainable use of water resources while balancing economic and cultural values and property rights.

Meet your local sheriff

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a town hall meeting Monday, March 25, at 6 p.m. at the Mission San Miguel Parish Hall behind the Mission. This is a great opportunity to speak with Sheriff Ian Parkinson and his staff, voice your concerns and learn about their operations and the services they offer. A small number of deputies cover a very large territory, and they need the help of citizens to do their job as efficiently as possible.

Some parents at Lillian Larsen School suggested a name change of the school mascot — the Hornets — and also the school colors of green and gold. These names and colors were chosen long, long ago. A lot of students who don’t want the change prepared a petition to keep the tradition alive and will be asking for signatures. The signed petition will be presented to the school board at a future meeting.
