Rainy weather expected to return to SLO County on Friday

The cold front that produced the rain on Christmas night has moved southeast of San Luis Obispo County, but the 1,007 millibar low-pressure system associated with the front will hang around through the day producing scattered showers, a chance for thunderstorms, and more snow for the mountains.

Most of the shower activity will occur into early afternoon. Snow levels continue to be rather low and around 3,500 feet. Showers will end tonight with partial clearing overnight with colder temperatures.

Thursday will be a partly to mostly sunny after some morning fog across the North County with temperatures about the same or slightly warmer with most San Luis Obispo County locations ranging between in the mid-50s and low 60s. Overnight lows Thursday will drop into the high 20s in the North County, with upper 30s closer to the coast.

Friday morning will be mostly clear, then clouds will increase Friday afternoon as another area of low pressure approaches the Central Coast. Showers will develop on Friday night into Saturday with light snow across the Sierra. Showers will probably end on Saturday night with only a few lingering showers on Sunday morning.

Sunday should be a dry day with a clear and cold night expected on Sunday night and Monday morning.

Dry weather should continue early next week with the next chance for precipitation around next Thursday. Any precipitation that falls should be generally light as the area of low pressure will generally be weak. Dry weather is then expected to return over the following weekend with continued dry weather into the second week of 2013.
