Nuclear protest: Monks walk from Diablo to SLO

Some Buddhist monks, a nun and their supporters walked Wednesday from the entrance of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant to San Luis Obispo City Hall to advocate for a nuclear-free future.

The walk covered 12 miles and was held on the date of 12-12-12.

The monks — Gyosen Sawada of Los Angeles and Gilberto Perez and Senji Kanaeda, both of Seattle — are part of the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Order. It was founded in 1917 and is today dedicated to nonviolence and a nuclear-free future.

Before coming to the Central Coast, the monks conducted a fast outside the San Onofre nuclear plant.
