Oil company fined $400,000 for violations in SLO County

Jaco Oil, owner or operator of about 100 gas stations in California, including San Luis Obispo County, has been fined $400,000 by the state water board for not properly maintaining and testing 14 underground storage tanks.

Water board investigators found environmental violations in San Luis Obispo, Kern and Merced counties over the course of “the last several years,” according to a water board release.

Under the terms of the judgment, the Bakersfield company will pay $325,000 to the water board in civil penalties and $75,000 in investigative and enforcement costs.
