The man found dead in another man’s van in downtown San Luis Obispo last week has been identified as George Ormonde, 64, a transient who was living in San Luis Obispo. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
David Harrell, also a San Luis Obispo transient, returned to his unlocked van on Thursday to find Ormonde unconscious inside, police said. He drove the man to French Hospital Medical Center about 3 a.m., only to be told by hospital staff that the man was dead.
Harrell, who is not a suspect, told hospital staff that he tried to wake the man but could not, according to police. Harrell left the hospital before police arrived, but detectives tracked him down around noon downtown to question him. He was released from the Police Department; police say there is no evidence Harrell was involved in the man’s death.
