A 56-year-old California Valley woman accused of shooting her neighbor to death pleaded not guilty to murder Friday in San Luis Obispo Superior Court.

Gina Loret Mayborn entered her plea of not guilty in the death of 49-year-old Joseph King Cochran before Judge John Trice.

On Sunday around 7:50 p.m., deputies responding to a 911 call went to a home off Cucamonga Trail and Dorris Road, where they found Cochran dead from a single shotgun wound, according to a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office news release. Paramedics from the Cal Fire station in California Valley also responded but were unable to revive Cochran, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies determined that Cochran and Mayborn had an argument. Cochran lived in a trailer on or next to the property where Mayborn lives, according to the news release.

In addition to the murder charge, Mayborn is accused of the enhancements of personally using a firearm in the commission of a felony and for committing a felony deemed “serious” under a list of crimes in the penal code.

Her next hearing, a pre-preliminary hearing, is scheduled for July 25 before Judge Jacquelyn Duffy.
