A San Luis Obispo woman was arrested Monday night after police say she intentionally hit a bicyclist with her van in a shopping center parking lot.

Around 9 p.m., officers responded to a call about a hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist in the Prefumo Creek Commons shopping center on Los Osos Valley Road, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department. It turned out not to be an accident, officers determined.

The bicyclist — Douglas Mark, 54, of San Luis Obispo — had argued with a man in the parking lot, according to police who spoke with witnesses and reviewed security video footage. When Mark tried to ride away, a van rammed into him. The other man jumped into the van, and it sped off, police said. Mark suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Later, the van was stopped on Highway 101 by Pismo Beach police. The driver — identified as Olivia Ripple, 24, of San Luis Obispo — was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time, police said. The male associate has yet to be identified.

Ripple was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
