The Sheriff's Office will auction off bikes that have been refurbished by honor farm inmates at a first-ever event later this month.
Viewing of the bikes being offered will occur between 10 a.m. and noon on June 30. The live auction will start at noon and go to 2 p.m. that day. The auction will be held at the men's honor farm gas pumps on Kansas Avenue.
Mountain and road bikes, including some made of carbon fiber, will be on display for bidding. The sheriff's advisory committee is sponsoring the auction.
Proceeds raised will go back into the sheriff's bike fund, which is used to buy parts for refurbishing bikes and helmets. At Christmas every year, the bikes fixed up by inmates are donated to various public agencies, churches and homeless assistance groups for donation to needy children.
Only cash or a check with valid identification will be accepted for payment at the auction. Full payment is due at the time of purchase.
