Nick Franco, State Parks superintendent in San Luis Obispo County, is confident that Morro Strand State Beach campground will stay open for the summer.
Morro Strand is on the list of California State Parks earmarked for closure because of state budget shortfalls. Franco has several proposals from nonprofit groups to operate the campground after the end of June, when the fiscal year ends and the closures kick in.
“However, it is still on the closure list, and we do not have a finalized agreement, yet,” he said.
Limekiln State Park in southern Big Sur, the other Central Coast park on the closure list, will also stay open. The state already has an agreement with a concessionaire to operate the park, Franco said.
