UPDATE 4 P.M. SUNDAY: A Ventura County man was killed and three other people were hurt after a pickup truck veered off the road, rolled over and crashed into several trees near Nacimiento Lake north of Paso Robles Saturday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
About 6:30 p.m., the driver of a 1989 Ford F250 pickup lost control of his vehicle as it went down a hill along Gage Irving Drive in the Running Deer Ranch area south of the lake, according to a CHP press release issued on Sunday.
The CHP says it doesn't know why he lost control of the truck.
The pickup went through a field before rolling over and became airborne as it went down a 10-foot-high nearly vertical embankment, and then landed back on the road, the CHP said. The truck reportedly rolled over across the road and then struck several trees.
The driver, a 42-year-old man from the small community of Oak View near Ojai was thrown out of the truck and killed. Authorities would not disclose his name.
A 37-year-old woman hurt her leg and suffered cuts, and a 4-year-old boy might have broken his wrist, the CHP said.
A 43-year-old man who rode in the pickup’s uncovered bed was thrown out before the truck rolled over and suffered only minor injuries.
The truck’s three passengers were also from Oak View. None was using a seatbelt, and the child wasn’t in a safety seat, according to the CHP.
