Cal Poly names new dean for College of Liberal Arts

UPDATE 11:28 a.m. Thursday: The annual salary for Douglas Epperson, Cal Poly's newly hired dean of the College of Liberal Arts, will be $203,004, according to Larry Kelley, the university's vice president of administration and finance.

Original story: A dean at Washington State University will be the new dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Cal Poly.

Douglas Epperson was named to the position at Cal Poly and will assume his new post on Aug. 15, according to university officials.

Epperson has served as dean of Washington State’s College of Liberal Arts since 2009. He also was an assistant professor of psychology and former associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University.

Epperson earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1973 and master’s in educational psychology in 1976 from the University of Utah. In 1979, he earned a doctorate in counseling psychology from Ohio State University.

He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.

Epperson will succeed Linda Halisky, who is retiring after a 28-year career at Cal Poly, including the past eight years as dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
