SANTA ANA — Mission Prep's girls basketball team won its 19th divisional title in school history this afternoon with a 56-45 win over Villanova Prep in the championship game of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5AA tournament at Mater Dei High.
The top-seeded Royals scored the first 11 points of the game and maintained their 11-point halftime lead by closing out Villanova Prep in the fourth quarter.
Mission Prep had a 28-17 halftime lead with Bri Harvey scoring 13 first-half points, and Kaylee Williams adding six points.
Samantha Watson led Villanova Prep with eight points and four rebounds. The Wildcats didn't have a field goal in the second quarter until the final 1:26 of the period.
