The San Luis Obispo Fire Department reports that a brush fire burned a small patch of land in the Irish Hills Open Space in the southwestern end of San Luis Obispo about 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters noticed a large column of smoke and found a wind-driven fire in a roughly 5,000-square-foot area of grass and oaks, according to a Fire Department press release.
The fire was located on a trail about a five-minute hike up the hill.
The Fire Department said the fire appeared to be set intentionally, with passers-by reporting some kids had fled the area.
