As expected, Arroyo Grande High football stars Brent VanderVeen, Garrett Owens and Garrett Weinreich all signed National Letters of Intent today to play collegiately at Oregon State.
All three received full-ride scholarships. VanderVeen (quarterback), Owens (kicker) and Weinreich (offensive line) helped lead the Eagles to a 13-1 record this past season. After losing the season opener to Lompoc, the Eagles won their final 13 games, including a 42-14 win over Culver City in the CIF-Southern Section Western Division championship game.
It was the second straight Western Division championship game appearance for the Eagles, who lost to Serra of Gardena 35-10 in the 2010 championship game.
VanderVeen and Weinreich had committed to Oregon State earlier in the process. Owens originally committed to Air Force and then changed his commitment to Oregon State on Tuesday night. Owens will grayshirt at Oregon State, meaning he will delay his enrollment until January 2013 and then have five years to complete four seasons.
