San Miguel Scene: New fire leaders to be sworn in tonight

This evening at the regular meeting of the San Miguel Community Services District, new fire Chief Rob Robertson and Assistant Chief Kelly Dodds will be sworn in.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the services district office, 1150 Mission St.

The public is welcome to attend.

Mission Market and Deli, at Mission and River roads, is now offering Quickflix movie rentals. There is a wide selection available at $1.20 per night. Pick up your movies and treats all together.

The Chamber Development Committee of the San Miguel Resource Connection held a mixer at The Ranch on Monday evening.

Committee Chairwoman Miki Landseadel said there is great interest in forming a chamber, and she wants to thank everyone who is participating.

Forms have been filed with the state to receive a charter.

This November, three seats will be open on the San Miguel school board.

To encourage interest and participation, the San Miguel Teachers Association will hold two informational presentations: Feb. 2 at the Heritage Ranch Community Center (near Cappy Culver School), and Feb. 3, a bilingual presentation, in the meeting room at the Rios-Caledonia Adobe, 700 Mission St. Both sessions will run from 4 to 6 p.m.

The presentations will cover what it means to be a school board member and how to run a campaign.

Currently, there is an opening on the board to complete Charlie Brooks’ term. Brooks recently resigned. This offers an opportunity for short-term service on the school board before a candidate decides to run.

The San Miguel school board meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the library at Lillian Larsen School, 1600 L St.
