Sam Crosson, who spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Cal and helped lead the Golden Bears to the 2010 NCAA championship match, was named today as Cal Poly's new volleyball coach.
Crosson replaces Caroline Walters, who was an interim coach for most of the 2011 season after Cal Poly athletic director Don Oberhelman removed Jon Stevenson as coach early in the 2011 season.
Cal went 26-7 this past season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament one season after losing in the NCAA championship match and setting a school record for wins in a season with 30.
Prior to joining Cal, Crosson spent five seasons as the top assistant coach at Saint Mary's. While at Saint Mary's, he helped lead the Gaels to consecutive 20-win seasons, including the school's second-best record ever at 23-5.
