Girl who tried to jump off a bridge saved by Arroyo Grande police officers

Two Arroyo Grande police officers saved a girl who tried to jump off a bridge in downtown Arroyo Grande on Thursday, according to the Arroyo Grande Police Department.

Just after 10:35 a.m. Sgt. Shawn Cosgrove responded to a reported suicide attempt where Bridge Street crosses over Arroyo Grande Creek and found a girl with one leg over the guardrail of the bridge. An unidentified counselor was trying to convince the girl to back away from the edge of the bridge.

When officers arrived, the girl brought her other leg over the railing and started to push off the bridge. Cosgrove and officer Vince Johnson grabbed the girl and pulled her away from the edge of the bridge.

The girl was taken to the San Luis Obispo County Mental Health Services for evaluation for 72 hours
