San Miguel Scene: It’s potluck time at the center

Tonight, the Community Potluck at the Senior Center on East 12th Street begins at 5:30. All are welcome to bring a dish and join neighbors for a delicious supper.

Friday night bingo starts at 6:30. This is a good way to meet and greet old and new friends in the area.

Saturday at 8 p.m., the Symphony of the Vines, under the direction of Greg Magee, will present Bach in the Mission. The program includes baroque masterpieces by Bach, Handel and Vivaldi.

Tickets are $20 and $30. Students who present their I.D. will be given a 50 percent discount. Tickets are available now at http://www.symphonyofthevines.org.

Dan Silva, a native of San Miguel, died Friday. He graduated from San Miguel Elementary and Paso Robles High schools.

Dan and Sherrie Silva owned Dan Silva Construction and raised their family in Estrella. A memorial service will be held at the J&J Cellars Event Center at 2850 Ranchita Canyon Road east of San Miguel. Farewell old friend.

Those who wish to honor the memory of Fred Thacker may donate to the Pleasant Valley Community Foundation. Fred attended Pleasant Valley elementary school and was a charter member of the foundation, which was formed to preserve the original Pleasant Valley school building.

A new artist is in residence at 16th and Mission streets.

Steve Hart recently moved here from Berkeley and has been seen working on large carvings outside his studio. He has worked in several different media including bronze and synthetics and is interested in taking commissions. Stop and see him or call him at 510-566-4053.
