Atascadero’s newly appointed police Chief Jerel Haley will take his oath of office before tonight’s City Council meeting.
The ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the council meeting to follow at 6 p.m. Both will take place at the City Hall Council Chambers, 6907 El Camino Real.
Haley, selected from a pool of 48 applicants, has 20 years of law enforcement experience. He was previously a lieutenant at the Santa Maria Police Department, where he oversaw various departments and crime programs.
Haley will lead the Atascadero Police Department's 28 sworn officers and an approximately $5.6 million annual budget.
