The 53-year-old woman struck and killed by a car in Oceano over the weekend has been identified as Debora Lee Nelson.
San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s officials made the identification on Monday.
Nelson was living in the area as a transient. It was unknown how long she’d been in the area, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Rob Bryn said.
According to authorities, she walked into traffic along the west side of Highway 1 near 17th Street just after 8:30 p.m. Friday when, for unknown reasons, she stepped off a sidewalk directly into the path of a 1998 Honda.

The driver of the Honda was identified by the CHP as Mason Sperakos, 21, of Nipomo.
The CHP said Sperakos could not see Nelson when she walked in front of his car.
Nelson was taken to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and then Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for surgery. She died of her injuries Saturday.
