San Luis Obispo residents will pay 4.6 percent more for their garbage pickup staring in November.
On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously approved the rate increase — the first since January 2009.
A breakdown of that increase requested by the San Luis Garbage Co. is as follows:
2.64 percent to cover an increase in the fees that landfills charge commercial trash haulers (approved by the San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors in June);

0.95 percent increase for green waste processing; and
1.03 percent increase for inflation.
Customers who now pay $12.05 a month will pay $12.61 when the rate increases Nov. 1. Those who pay $24.01 a month will pay $25.22 monthly.
