Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will highlight the annual County/Cal Fire airport station open house Oct. 15.
The open house, described as a family event, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the station, 4671 Broad St., San Luis Obispo.
Smokey and Sparky will be teaching visitors about fire safety, according to fire officials.
In addition, firefighters will offer tours of the fire station and fire equipment and perform hourly Oshkosh Striker Crash Truck demonstrations.
Station 21, which averages 600 calls per year, houses a fire engine, two crash fire rescue units, one water tender and a heavy rescue unit.
Fire officials say there will be activities for all ages and they encourage parents “to expose their children to fire prevention education.”
The open house also can serve as an introduction for individuals who may be considering a career in the fire service, officials said.
