Local citizens Tuesday rallied in support of President Barack Obama’s proposed American Jobs Act at the Atascadero office of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield.

The public event, organized by the Atascadero Democratic Club, attracted about 60 people. Demonstrators came from Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande and Cambria, organizers said.

They also signed a petition against joblessness that was presented to the office.

The proposed jobs bill is intended to create incentives to hire new workers, expand payroll tax cuts and create construction jobs, among other things.
