A 48-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing items from a San Luis Obispo office building.

At 9 a.m. Thursday, police were notified about a commercial robbery at the building at 679 Monterey St.

A person who had arrived at work saw that someone had broken a window and stolen several items from the various offices inside the building, according to police.

Investigating officers found personal property at the scene that appeared to have been left behind by the suspect, Patrick Hays. The property had Hay's name on it, according to police.

Officers found that Hays was on parole from the California Department of Corrections. They searched the city and found Hays on Prado Road, near Elks Lane. Officers searched his vehicle and found a video camera, laptop computer and cash that had been taken from the building, according to police, along with other stolen items.

Hays, a transient, reportedly admitted to the robbery and was arrested on suspicion of burglary and a parole violation. He is being held without bail at County Jail.
