1 killed in fiery crash involving van, 3 big-rigs

One person is reported killed in a fiery crash on Highway 166 that involved a van and three big-rigs, according to the CHP.

The CHP’s online incident page says the crash was reported at 9:22 a.m. along Highway 166, east of New Cuyama, near the San Luis Obispo-Kern County line. The roadway is now closed to all but emergency traffic.

A report to the CHP at 9:41 said that all the tankers were on fire. A subsequent report at 9:57 said there was one confirmed death.

Authorities are trying to set up a command post on Soda Lake Road. The crash scene is near where Cerro Noroeste intersects with Highway 166.
