SLO Vocal Arts Ensemble gets new executive director

There’s a new face at the San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble.

Sarah Taylor Maggelet took over in August as executive director of the Vocal Arts Ensemble, an adult choir founded in 1977 by director Gary Lamprecht. She replaces Pat Harris, who has retired.

A Cal Poly graduate with experience in marketing and sales, Harris worked previously with KCBX public radio and the Live Oak Music Festival. She and her husband, Scott, own the website development firm Applynx Web Solutions; both are former employees of The Tribune.

Maggelet said today that she hopes to use her professional marketing background to boost ticket sales and community outreach efforts.

Most importantly, the Templeton resident wants to target younger audience members who see choral music as “something their grandmother did in church.”

“We’d like to change that perception in the community because this really is a powerful show,” Maggelet said.

The Vocal Arts Ensemble kicks off its 35th season Sept. 18 with a concert at Mission San Miguel. For more information, call 541-6797 or visit www.vocalarts.org.
