Chief Callaway honored in SLO

Firefighters joined family and friends at Mission San Luis Obispo on Thursday to honor William F. “Wild Bill” Callaway III, a retired battalion chief for the San Luis Obispo Fire Department who died July 24.

He was remembered as “Mr. Mom” for his good cooking skills, which led to a catering business he started after he left the fire service.

Another business he began, Candy Cane Lane Christmas Trees, remains in operation.

Callaway, 68, was a San Luis Obispo native.
