The Oceano services district board will hold a special meeting Friday to consider a settlement agreement with former General Manager Raffaele Montemurro.
The board unanimously dismissed Montemurro on May 31 but did not decide whether to dismiss him for good cause or not, Molly Thurmond, the board’s attorney, said Wednesday.
According to Montemurro’s contract, if he was dismissed for cause, the board would not have to pay a severance. Montemurro was hired in October 2009 as the district’s fifth general manager in four years, including two interim managers.
The board has been unsuccessful in its efforts so far to hire an interim general manager to lead the small water and sewer-focused agency, which serves about 7,200 residents.
A former office manager who was tapped to fill in after Montemurro left stayed a day. Since then, board members have been helping out around the office when they can, board vice president Matt Guerrero said.
The board held a special meeting Sunday at which it decided to contact Santa Maria-based United Staffing Associates to try to find a temporary hire to manage the office. So far, that effort has been unsuccessful.
A job opening for an interim general manager has been posted on Oceano’s website.
The deadline to apply is June 16 at 5 p.m. On June 17, the board’s two-person personnel committee will meet to select up to eight people they want to interview.
Telephone interviews will take place June 20-21, with the top applicants brought it for interviews before the full board on June 22.
A PDF with more details about the job opening is available here: http://www.oceanocsd.org/agendas/IGM.pdf.
Friday’s meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. at 1655 Front St. A meeting of the board’s finance committee — comprised of board members Felma Hurdle and Mary Lucey — will meet at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the agency’s 2011-12 budget.
