Icy orbit spotted in the sky in SLO County

The ring around the sun that was visible for a time Friday morning was caused by high-level cirrus clouds made of ice crystals. According to local forecaster John Lindsey, the sunlight reflected off the ice crystals, creating the ring.

Skies should be gray today as a late-season storm brings the potential for up to 1.25 inches of rain to San Luis Obispo and the coast. Inland mountains could get more than 2 inches.

High temperatures today will be in the 50s to low 60s. The weather will remain cool with some showers into Monday.
