Nipomo Elementary Principal Brett Gimlin upheld his promise to his students and moved his office to the school’s roof today.
Gimlin told his students that if they read for 400,000 minutes in the school’s “Reading Takes You Places” Read-a-Thon this year, that he would spend an entire day on the roof, said Ryan Foran, a Lucia Mar district spokesman.
“Anything can be accomplished when you set your mind to something and work hard to achieve it,” Gimlin said in a statement. “I’m very proud of our students, and I look forward to my day on the roof.”
Nipomo Elementary students read for 406,614 minutes and raised $1,400 for the school library. Classes with the most participation received parties in the school library; 183 students received books and gift certificates as rewards.
Top individual readers and fundraisers in each class received book bags with prizes donated by the Rotary Club of Nipomo, Coast Hills Credit Union and several other businesses. The read-a-thon was organized by Library Technician Cathe Olson.
