A body washed ashore at Pismo State Beach near Grover Beach early Saturday morning, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.
State Parks rangers called the Sheriff’s Department at 6:58 a.m. reporting that a dead body was in the surf, sheriff’s Sgt. Aaron Nix said.
It was brought ashore about half-way between the Grand Avenue beach-entry ramp in Grover Beach and the Pier Avenue ramp in Oceano, Nix added.
The body was that of a 27-year-old black man from San Luis Obispo, he added.
He said the investigation is still too preliminary to disclose the man’s identity, and that an autopsy will need to be done to determine his cause of death or how he ended up in the near-shore waters.
