Part of Price Street/Shell Beach Road will be closed Tuesday and possibly Wednesday as crews remove part of an abandoned gas pipeline.
The pipeline, owned by Southern California Gas Co., became exposed in March after a 100-foot section of the bluff in Pismo Beach broke off the cliff near Dinosaur Caves Park.
The bluff failed along a section between the park and the Best Western hotel located along Price Street, said Ben Fine, associate civil engineer with the city’s public works department.
Starting about 7 a.m. Tuesday, Price Street/Shell Beach Road will be closed from Cliff Avenue to where Price Street curves under the Highway 101 freeway and becomes Mattie Road.
Crews will cut and remove a portion of the pipe, and then weld a cap onto the remaining portions. The work could be completed Tuesday but if not, the road closure will extend into Wednesday, Fine said.
