Fire at Arroyo Grande police station is investigated as arson

Arroyo Grande police are investigating an arson fire that occurred at their station.

According to Cmdr. John Hough, a small trash fire was called in to dispatchers at 8:55 p.m. Sunday at the rear of the Police Department headquarters. Firefighters discovered a small fire behind a utility box on the Rena Street side of the station. The flames were quickly put out.

No injuries or property damage occurred, Hough said in the news release. But a trained arson investigator determined that the blaze was started by someone using an accelerant. For that reason, the incident has been ruled an arson and is being investigated as such.
