Highway 1 reopened at Alder Creek at the south end of Big Sur about 12:30 p.m., Caltrans has announced. The highway has been closed about 2 miles south of Gorda since tons of rock and dirt fell onto the roadway Sunday evening.
The highway will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., approximately dusk to dawn, until further notice, due to the danger of more rock slides.
Highway 1 is still closed at Rocky Creek at the north end of Big Sur, where a temporary fix for the collapse of the roadway March 16 is now not expected until the end of April.
Pedestrians and bicyclists are allowed through north of Bixby Creek Bridge twice a day, at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
