The jury in the attempted murder case against Steven Smith of San Miguel will continue its deliberations Monday because of a court holiday.
San Luis Obispo County Superior Court will be closed to the public Friday in honor of President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
Smith is accused of shooting Gina Stanko, a woman he impregnated, in 2009. Bullets struck Stanko in the head, chin and hand.
Smith’s attorney has argued his client shot in self-defense and suffered from battered man syndrome.
The jury of nine women and three men has been deliberating since Monday afternoon. Deliberations are expected to resume Monday morning, according to court officials.
The court also will be closed Feb. 21 in honor of President’s Day.
