Bicyclist in critical condition after hitting pedestrian in San Luis Obispo

A bicyclist was taken to the hospital with major injuries early Friday morning after reportedly hitting a pedestrian while riding on a sidewalk in San Luis Obispo.

David Kuratomi, 22, was riding his bicycle northbound on the east sidewalk of Santa Rosa Street near Olive Street at 12:50 a.m. when he hit Kevin Birmingham, 21, who was walking the same direction, according to police.

Kuratomi was thrown from the bicycle and was taken by ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where he is in critical condition, according to police.

Birmingham was not injured.
