CHP asking public for help in fatal Nipomo hit-and-run case

The CHP is asking that anyone who might have information about a fatal hit-and-run in Nipomo on Tuesday contact their office.

Nipomo resident Krista Janine Babbitt, 55, is thought to have been taking a morning walk before she was killed sometime early Tuesday morning..

Babbitt’s body was found on a roadway south of Nipomo near the intersection of Joshua Street and Santa Maria Vista Avenue. Someone called 911 just after 6 a.m.

CHP spokesman J.W. Townsen said officers believe Babbitt was struck by an unidentified vehicle, but it’s still unknown what Babbitt was doing or how the crash happened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, saw a person walking or standing along Joshua Road around that time or may have any other information is asked to call the CHP at 593-3300.

Local vehicle repair shops, including paint and body businesses, are asked to call the CHP if they see, hear or have anyone inquiring about repairing a vehicle which may have been involved in a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision.
