Paso Robles

U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy is set to visit with students at Paso Robles High School next week.

McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, is speaking to senior leadership and government classes there Friday.

As the majority whip in the House of Representatives, he is the third-ranking Republican in the chamber.

McCarthy represents the North County and parts of Arroyo Grande and Nipomo. His district also includes most of Kern County and northeastern Los Angeles County.

Several local people will represent the 33rd Assembly District at California Democratic Party conventions this year and in 2012.

Voters selected the representatives at a district meeting Jan. 9 attended by more than 250 registered Democrats, the San Luis Obispo County Democratic Central Committee announced Wednesday.

The representatives include: Marilyn Armstrong, David Baldwin, Linda Bomstad, Mark Buchman, Marlene Cartter, James Conway, Michael Heyl, David Kilburn, Dawn Legg, Mary Ellen Maldonado and Mary Strobridge.

The district covers all of San Luis Obispo County and the northern part of Santa Barbara County, including Santa Maria, Lompoc, Orcutt and the Vandenberg Air Force Base.

In addition to attending state conventions, they will serve as members of the Democratic Central Committee.
