Dwayne Chisam, Pismo Beach director of public works, center, gave some city officials a tour Thursday of the improvements made to the plaza area near the Pismo Beach Pier.

The $1.4 million project included replacing the concrete sidewalk along the existing seawall, removing and replacing the stairway, adding two showers and rebuilding an existing one, and building new storm drain facilities to prevent runoff onto the beach.

It also included construction of a wooden boardwalk between existing sections at the end of Main Street and Pomeroy Avenue. Chisam said $1.1 million came from the federal stimulus-spending package, and the rest came from other federal and state funds.
