Cyclist in Friday collision dies of injuries

William Norman Putnam, who was struck by a truck while riding his bike last Friday, died of his injuries Wednesday night at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, said hospital spokesman Ron Yukelson.

Fifty-four-year old Putman was riding his bicycle west on Prado Road through San Luis Obispo about 3:21 p.m. Friday when he abruptly turned his bicycle to the left, directly in front of the tractor-trailer, police said. Putman suffered major injuries. An investigation of the accident is ongoing by the city’s traffic safety unit.
