Carlyn Christianson was elected chairwoman of the newly constituted county Planning Commission Thursday, and Dan O’Grady was elected vice chairman.
Christianson and O’Grady are the only two of the 5-member commission to return from last year, and Christianson joked that they are taking over the group’s leadership “by default.”
Three members left in December. The Board of Supervisors subsequently appointed Cal Poly lecturer Ken Topping, North County rancher and real estate agent Jim Irving, and South County real estate agent and agriculturalist Tim Murphy, who was appointed Tuesday.
Commissioners agreed to make a group visit to the Carrizo Plain to view the two solar projects being planned there They have not set a date.
The Planning Commission plays a key role in reviewing new development, as well as shaping where and how growth should occur.
