SLO road closure Sunday night caused by allegedly drunk driver

A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly crashed into a utility pole while driving drunk.

Scott Metcalf, 27, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly sheared a utility pole in the 200 block of Higuera Street with his 2010 Toyota Tacoma. The collision, which happened at 5 p.m., caused the wires from the pole to fall into the roadway.

Metcalf ran from the scene but officers found him behind a nearby business, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The 200 block of Higuera Street was closed for approximately two hours while the utility lines were fixed.

Metcalf was booked into County Jail, where bail was set at $5,000.
