Memorial service set for former Arroyo Grande woman killed in Colorado

UPDATE: The memorial service for Melinda Tackett Yager is set for 11 a.m. Jan. 22 at New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, 990 James Way in Pismo Beach.

Original story: A former Arroyo Grande resident was allegedly killed by her estranged husband in the small town in Colorado where they lived, according to local news reports.

The Montrose (Colo.) Daily Press reports that the body of Melinda Tackett Yager, 34, was found near her home in Paonia, Colo., on Friday.

Nathan Yager, 38, described as her estranged husband, turned himself in to authorities there a few hours after her body was found, according to the newspaper.

He remained in custody of the Delta County Sheriff's Office as of Sunday night, according to the Colorado state inmate database.

The Grand Junction (Colo.) Daily Sentinel reports that Melinda Yager was found stabbed to death, and that authorities there confirmed that the couple was going through a divorce. Other news media from the region say the pair were at a court hearing on Friday.

Paonia is an incorporated farming town in the Rocky Mountains in central-western Colorado, with a population of about 1,500. It’s about 50 miles east of Grand Junction and about 140 miles southwest of Denver.

Melinda Yager graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1995. Her family — who live in Paso Robles — have said that a memorial service is being planned to be held in the South County.

A fund for Melinda Yager's 15-month-old daughter is being set up by the family. For more information on how to donate, go to www.kayleesangel.com.
