Wind gust at Diablo Canyon Power Plant spurs 'unusual event'

PG&E notified county, state and federal authorities of the declaration of an "unusual event" at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant because of a wind gust.

An unusual event is declared for any other-than-normal plant related condition that doesn't require any emergency action by the general public or government authorities.

The unusual event was declared on both Units 1 and 2 at 4:25 p.m. on Dec. 25, as a conservative action due to a wind gust of over 80 mph that occurred at 4:15 p.m. The wind did not cause any problems to plant equipment.

The unusual event ended four hours later, PG&E said Monday.

Unit 1 and 2 continue to operate at full power with no impact to the health and safety of the public.
