Investigators with the Morro Bay Police Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department plan to canvass neighborhoods and a homeless encampment to try to learn the identity of a woman whose body was found near Morro Rock.
An off-duty Harbor Patrol employee discovered the unresponsive woman on the beach early Tuesday while out for a morning walk.
Detectives have been unable to identify the woman, and no one has come forward with information about her.
The woman’s cause of death is also unknown. Investigators say they are hoping to learn whether the woman had a pre-existing medical condition that could have led to her death.

An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday was pushed back until today.
A Sheriff’s Department representative said the medical examiner performing the autopsy is from outside the area and did not want to travel in the stormy weather.
“We are waiting on the autopsy,” said Morro Bay Police Chief Tim Olivas. “After that, we’ll likely know more information.”
The canvassing will occur once the autopsy is done.
