Crashes on the Cuesta Grade lead to major traffic backup

A car flipped over on the Cuesta Grade on Wednesday morning, causing a major traffic backup for morning commuters and holiday travelers.

The white car flipped over in the slow lane of northbound Highway 101 at 6:44 a.m., according to the CHP. The crash happened on the north side of the grade, just below the start of the brake-check area.

The female driver was trapped inside the vehicle, but was conscious, according to CHP reports.

CHP officers slowed traffic near the Highway 58 offramp.

At 8:02 a.m., another car rolled over on the south side of the grade, just before the Monterey Street exit. An ambulance was responding to help the female driver, who was the only person in the car.

At 8:26 a.m., another vehicle spun out in the same area and was facing the wrong way. It was partially blocking the fast lane.

Several other minor crashes were also reported in the area.
