Crews from Whit’s Turn Tree Care work to remove the first of five trees around Atascadero’s historic Administration Building.
The work began Monday and will continue this week as rain permits.
The City Council agreed in the fall that the four deodar cedars and one Italian cypress obstructed views of the building, and they would not survive reconstruction of the earthquake-damaged building.
The decades-old cedars will be recycled into lumber and wood chips to benefit Atascadero Historical Society projects such as new garden benches and ground cover to freshen up the Colony House across the street.
