Two people found dead in 'suspicious' circumstances near California Valley

Sheriff’s detectives opened an investigation into two suspicious deaths Wednesday when a man and woman were found dead in a vehicle off Highway 58 near Santa Margarita.

Sheriff’s Department spokesman Rob Bryn said the vehicle was found near Red Hill Road.

Bryn said the vehicle apparently left the roadway, went down an embankment and came to rest on its side. Detectives and CHP officers investigated the scene Wednesday morning; authorities expected it to be cleared by evening.

The discovery was reported at 4:56 a.m., but “additional information is leading us to believe it happened prior to that and we’re working those leads now,” Bryn said, without giving additional details.

Core body temperatures and autopsy findings will help authorities determine when the deaths occurred. Autopsies will be conducted Friday, he said.

“We are conducting a dual investigation (with CHP) and calling the death suspicious,” Bryn said.

A CHP Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigative Team, which is trained specifically to investigate major fatal accidents, is also looking into what happened.

The make and model of the car were not released. The names of the man and woman will not be released until next of kin are notified.
