UPDATE: Authorities identify Nipomo man who died after fight on Thanksgiving Day

The 25-year-old Nipomo man who died Thursday after a fight has been identified as Victor Salazar Garcia Jr., sheriff’s officials said Monday.

Sheriff’s spokesman Rob Bryn said Monday that detectives are still investigating the incident, which happened at Hazel Lane and Starlite Drive in Nipomo shortly before 8:30 p.m.

Deputies responded to a report of a fight in the street and found an unconscious man at the scene.

Garcia was taken to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, where he was declared dead, officials said. Bryn said an autopsy is planned for Tuesday; results of a toxicology test may not be available for three weeks.

A 25-year-old Nipomo man died Thursday after a fight at Hazel Lane and Starlite Drive in Nipomo, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to a report of a fight in the street shortly before 8:30 p.m. and found an unconscious man at the scene.

The man was taken to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, where he was declared dead.

His name is not being released pending notification of next of kin. Sheriff’s detectives and the coroner are continuing to investigate this incident. An autopsy is pending.
