A Templeton man was involved in a collision Monday morning on Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley that killed a 51-year-old Santa Maria man.
Greg Baum, 47, was heading eastbound in his 2005 Ford pickup truck at 10:20 a.m. when he slammed into a 2004 Honda stopped at a stop sign in the same direction near Edison Street, according to the CHP's Buellton office.
The driver of the Honda, whose name has not been released, died on scene.
Baum was not injured.
Authorities attribute a possible cause of the crash to Baum becoming distracted when he might have dropped something inside his truck and took his eyes off the road to find it.
Any potential charges against Baum are pending until the CHP investigation is closed.
Alcohol and drugs do not seem to be factors in the crash, authorities said. Baum's speed has not yet been disclosed.
